This week, Lawrence County Fire Rescue is set to introduce a new Rapid Intervention Truck into its fleet. This state-of-the-art 4WD vehicle boasts an impressive array of features, including a powerful 12,000-pound winch and a Compressed Air Foam System that can generate over 1,000 gallons of finished foam. Additionally, the truck is outfitted with hydraulic tools for vehicle rescue, stabilization struts, rescue airbags, wood cribbing, chainsaws, demolition saws, forcible entry tools, and equipment for hazardous materials. It also includes gas monitors, a thermal imaging camera, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs), fire extinguishers, as well as water and rope rescue gear, emergency medical supplies, and a wide range of hand tools. This new vehicle replaces a rescue truck that had been in service for 23 years and was acquired through a local dealership in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
The introduction of this truck is particularly significant as it will play a vital role in the daytime staffing initiative that was launched in August 2025. This program aims to enhance coverage during hours when volunteer availability is typically lower. At present, only four personnel are assigned to two stations during the day to serve the expansive 617-square-mile area of Lawrence County.
Rapid Intervention Vehicles (RIVs) are designed to be smaller and more agile than traditional fire apparatus, which allows for quicker response times and more economical operations. Lawrence County Fire Rescue currently deploys two staffed RIVs each day, which are tasked with responding to a variety of emergencies, including motor vehicle accidents, EMS calls, rope and water rescues, carbon monoxide alarms, and other urgent situations. While pumpers and tankers remain the primary units for fire-related incidents, the addition of this new RIV enhances the department’s overall capability.
Officials have expressed confidence that this new unit will be crucial in their efforts to save lives and safeguard property within the community. Lawrence County Fire Rescue extends its gratitude to the County Commission, the local community, and its dedicated members for their support in making this acquisition a reality.
