This morning, on Thursday, April 10th, the Lawrenceburg City Council convened to address a variety of important matters. The meeting commenced with the introduction of the newly appointed City Engineer, Matthew Brown, who will be responsible for overseeing long-term planning initiatives. He engaged in discussions with Department Manager Jerry Smith regarding the current state of roads and upcoming paving projects within Lawrence County.
Following this introduction, the Council proceeded to conduct second readings on several key items, including the Crockett Theater, the Parks and Recreation Department, and updates to the occupational safety and health program plan. All of these items received approval from the Council. Specifically, the rental fees for the Crockett Theater were established, with local non-profit organizations being charged $600 per day, while out-of-county rentals will incur a fee of $1,250 per day. Additionally, a preservation fee of $3 per ticket was instituted. This new fee structure is effective immediately, following the Council’s approval.
In terms of the Parks and Recreation Department, a range of fees was set for various community programs and activities. These offerings include the Girls Softball League, the Spirit of Santa Program, Women’s Volleyball League, Men’s Softball League, Coed Softball League, Youth Basketball, shelter rentals, yoga classes, access to the Rotary Park Swimming Pool, swimming lessons, rentals of the Old Armory, and usage of the Bobby Brewer Softball Field, among others. Each program has designated pricing, which was determined by the Parks and Recreation Department, and these fees will also take effect today.
The Council also conducted the first reading of the budget appropriations for revenue and expenditures for the upcoming 2024-2025 fiscal year. Among the financial decisions made, the Council approved a $40,000 expansion for the Lawrence County Public Library and is in the process of developing designs for the new property.
Several resolutions were passed during the meeting as well. The Council agreed to enter into a partnership with Game Time for the installation of playground equipment at Barry Hogue’s Park, with a budget allocation of $60,000. Furthermore, the appointments of Dwain Bradley and Brock Berryhill to the Lawrenceburg Parks and Recreation Advisory Board were approved, along with the reappointment of Matt Calvert.
Lastly, the Council agreed to a contract with the State of Tennessee for the maintenance of state streets within the city limits of Lawrenceburg.
