Teen Charged with Felony Following Fiery DUI Incident in Lawrence County

A 19-year-old individual is now facing a series of felony charges following a serious DUI incident in Lawrence County that resulted in injuries to multiple teenagers. The incident occurred on January 4 at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Weakley Creek Road, as reported by NEWS 2.

According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the driver of a Chrysler Pacifica, traveling eastbound, veered off the right side of the road. In an attempt to correct the vehicle’s trajectory, the driver oversteered, crossing into oncoming traffic and heading toward a wooded area. The vehicle ultimately overturned, collided with a tree, and was consumed by flames.

Responders from Lawrence County Fire and Rescue quickly arrived at the scene, managing to extinguish both the fire engulfing the vehicle and the flames that had spread to the nearby woods. The Tennessee Highway Patrol indicated that there were seven individuals inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

In response to the severity of the injuries sustained, two medical helicopters were dispatched to transport the most critically injured passengers to a trauma center. The remaining occupants were taken to a local hospital by Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services.

The driver, identified as Braxton Reed, 19, sustained injuries and now faces multiple charges, including DUI, implied consent, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and kidnapping. Among the passengers, three were injured, comprising one 18-year-old and two 19-year-olds. Additionally, two other 18-year-old passengers, who were unharmed, were charged with underage drinking. A 16-year-old passenger, who suffered unspecified injuries, also faced charges related to underage consumption.
