Carl Douglas Rawdon, age 87, passed away on January 10, 2026. He was born on February 16, 1938, to Dessa Mae Rawdon Sharpton and Claude Eaven Rawdon. Carl proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a man of many interests, spending his working years running used car lots, farming, and trading livestock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dessa Mae Rawdon Sharpton and Claude Eaven Rawdon; his brother, C.W. Rawdon; his sister, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Rawdon White; and his infant sister, Noville Magdalene Rawdon. Carl is survived by his son, Doug Rawdon (Terri) of Leoma; his bonus-child, Carla Crawford of Lawrenceburg; grandchildren Christy Rawdon of Nashville, Blake Darnell (Koty) of Leoma, Teshia Darnell (Hughie Englett) of Lawrenceburg, Spencer Darnell (Sally) of Lawrenceburg, and Matt Scott (Tori) of Leoma; along with several great-grandchildren and several nieces.
A member of Springer Road Church of Christ, Carl will be remembered for his willingness to try something new and his dedication to his family. The family will receive friends at Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home on Friday, January 16, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and the funeral service will be held at Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home on Saturday, January 17, at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be held at John Lay Cemetery with military honors. Honorary Pallbearer will be Bob Orton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Kids Place Child Advocacy or Grace House. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his wonderful caretakers, Jane, Amber, and Carly, as well as all the healthcare workers who meant so much to Carl and his family over the past few years. Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be handling all final arrangements.
