Lauderdale County Launches Unified 911 Dispatch System

Lauderdale County has officially launched a unified 911 dispatch system, a significant advancement in its emergency response capabilities. The new system went live on August 19, 2026, and is designed to enhance the efficiency of emergency services throughout the area.
All first-response dispatchers in Lauderdale County are now operating from a single location at 102 Dr. Hicks Boulevard in Florence. This consolidation allows dispatchers to collaborate in the same room, utilizing a unified computer-aided dispatch system. This change is notable as it marks the first time that all dispatchers in the county have worked under the same system and terminology.
The project, which cost $2.1 million, includes 15 dispatch stations and training rooms. Additionally, the facility has transformed a former bank vault into a safe room, thereby enhancing security for dispatch operations.
Brad Holmes, a representative involved in the project, indicated that the new system could potentially reduce emergency response times by 2 to 3 minutes. This improvement is expected to positively impact the overall effectiveness of emergency services in the county.
Moreover, the new system facilitates collaboration between the Lauderdale and Colbert County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) centers. If necessary, these centers can take over operations for one another, ensuring continuous service during peak times or emergencies.
