On Friday, February 28th, 2025, Devin Ezell, the Director of Public Health for Lawrence, Giles, and Wayne Counties, addressed members of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club. During her presentation, she emphasized the Tennessee Health Department’s core mission, which is dedicated to safeguarding, promoting, and enhancing the health and well-being of the state’s residents. Ezell, who has held her position for over a decade, shared valuable insights into the various services offered by the Health Department.
Among the key programs highlighted were the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) supplemental food initiative, Vital Records management, Environmental Health services, Child Health and Immunizations, Emergency Preparedness, and Primary Care services specifically designed for uninsured adults aged 19 to 64. The local Health Department has established partnerships with several organizations, including Second Harvest Food Bank and Grace House, to enhance community outreach efforts. Most of the department’s funding comes from the State of Tennessee, with additional support from DGA grants and facilities provided by the County Government.
Ezell also provided an update on an upcoming facility that is currently in the architectural design phase. This new building is set to improve public access and offer expanded space for primary care and other essential services. The anticipated opening of this facility is scheduled for the spring of 2026. The program was introduced by Rotarian Teresa Purcell, who welcomed Ezell to share her insights with the club members.
