State Representative Clay Doggett has made an important announcement regarding support for TennCare families, revealing that they can now access free diapers for their young children. This initiative stems from a decision made by the General Assembly in 2023, which approved the TennCare diaper benefit as part of Governor Bill Lee’s Strong Family Initiative. This program aims to expand eligibility for assistance, thereby allowing more families and caregivers to receive the necessary support.
Starting from August 7, families enrolled in TennCare and CoverKids with children under the age of two will be able to obtain up to 100 diapers each month. Parents or caregivers can conveniently collect these diapers from designated pharmacies, similar to the process of picking up a prescription. To receive the diapers, they must present their child’s OptumRx pharmacy card to the pharmacist. In cases where infants do not yet possess their own card, parents can use their own OptumRx card or provide the child’s Social Security number as an alternative.
Currently, there are three pharmacies participating in this program, located in Giles, Lawrence, and Lincoln counties. These include Holland’s Drug in Lawrenceburg, Lincoln Pharmacy in Fayetteville, and Reeves Drug Store in Pulaski. The initial launch of the diaper benefit covers popular brands such as Huggies, Cuties, Pampers, and Luvs; however, the specific brands available will ultimately be determined by the pharmacies themselves.
