The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) recently unveiled the recipients of the Tennessee Historic Development Grants. This initiative, which was given the green light by the Tennessee General Assembly in April 2021, has allocated a total of $5.7 million to support projects focused on the restoration and preservation of historic structures throughout the state.
The primary objective of the program is to encourage both communities and private developers to invest in the revitalization of buildings that hold significant historical value but have fallen into disuse. By breathing new life into these structures, they can once again become active contributors to the local economy by generating employment opportunities and fostering commercial growth.
Among the beneficiaries of the grant program are Black Feather Botanicals, LLC, which has been awarded $20,000 to undertake the restoration of the Lawrence County Advocate in Lawrenceburg, TN. Additionally, the City of Lawrenceburg has received a substantial grant of $300,000 to support the rehabilitation of the Crockett Theater, also located in Lawrenceburg, TN.
