On Wednesday evening, a tragic incident unfolded at the Red Bay Housing Authority complex located on Eugenia Nixon Circle, where a mother and her two adult children were discovered deceased. Authorities are currently investigating the situation as an apparent murder-suicide.
Red Bay Police Chief Janna Jackson reported that officers arrived at the scene and found the three individuals inside the apartment. The victims have been identified as 59-year-old Theresa Sappington, along with her two children, 28-year-old Leigha Moody and 23-year-old Derick Moody.
Investigators believe that Derick Moody was responsible for the deaths of both Theresa Sappington and Leigha Moody, allegedly using a baseball bat in the assaults before ultimately taking his own life. At the scene, law enforcement officials recovered both a baseball bat and a firearm, which are now part of the ongoing investigation.
The police are diligently working to piece together the events that led to this heartbreaking situation, aiming to establish a clear timeline of what transpired.
