On Tuesday, May 13th, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department received a report regarding an unwanted individual on a property. Upon their arrival, deputies encountered a man who claimed he was there to collect his mother and retrieve money he believed was owed to him by the IRS. However, the property owner requested that the deputies remove him from the premises.
As part of their investigation, a deputy approached the vehicle in which the man was seated to gather further information. While standing near the vehicle, the deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside. The deputy then requested that the individual produce any marijuana he had in his possession. The man complied and handed over a small quantity of the substance. When asked if that was all he had, he affirmed that it was.
Despite the man’s assertion, the deputy noted that the strong smell of marijuana persisted, which provided probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle. At this point, the man admitted that there was additional marijuana present. He then retrieved 3.2 ounces of marijuana along with twenty-four Ecstasy pills from the vehicle. Further examination of the car revealed a glass pipe and rolling papers, which were believed to be associated with marijuana use.
Consequently, the individual was arrested for possession of the drugs found in his vehicle and was subsequently transported to the Lawrence County Jail for processing.
