Lauderdale County Man Faces 11 Charges After Attempted Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

On Wednesday morning, Deputy Adam Meeks from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a standard traffic stop on a vehicle operated by William Larry Irons at the intersection of County Roads 14 and 81. However, Irons failed to heed the deputy’s signals to pull over, which initiated a pursuit that lasted approximately 20 minutes. During this chase, Irons veered off County Road 186 and entered a wooded area, attempting to evade capture.

In a reckless maneuver, Irons reversed his vehicle and collided with the patrol car belonging to Deputy Meeks. Following this incident, Irons attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended after a short chase, during which a taser was deployed to subdue him. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered a firearm and illegal narcotics inside.

As a result of his actions, Irons faces a total of 11 charges, which include serious offenses such as Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Felony Eluding, and Assault in the Second Degree. Additionally, he has been charged with multiple counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, and possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Other charges include Unlawful Possession of Marijuana in the Second Degree, being a person forbidden to possess a firearm, running a stop sign, having an expired tag, and a Failure to Appear warrant. His bond has been set at $63,200.
