Tennessee has officially proclaimed July as a month dedicated to prayer and fasting, seeking divine mercy and healing throughout the state. This initiative, known as House Joint Resolution 51 (HJR0051), was introduced by State Representative Monty Fritts from Kingston and received the governor’s signature on May 2, 2025.
In celebration of this resolution, Giles County is set to host a special event on Monday, July 21, at 4:00 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. During this gathering, Representative Fritts will read the resolution aloud, and the ceremony is anticipated to attract both state and local dignitaries.
The event will commence with an opening prayer led by John DeBerry, a senior advisor to the governor and a well-respected minister. Among the attendees will be U.S. Congressman John Rose, who is also in the race for governor, along with various other elected officials.
The resolution garnered significant backing from lawmakers within Senatorial District 28. Notable co-sponsors include State Senator Joey Hensley, along with State Representatives Clay Doggett, Jody Barrett, Kip Capley, Scott Cepicky, and Todd Warner.
Organizers are urging community members to participate in this event, emphasizing its importance as a “historic” occasion for both Giles County and the state as a whole.
