Gail Somerville Evans, a beloved member of the Florence, Alabama community, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the age of 82. Gail was born and raised in Tuscumbia, Alabama, and was a proud graduate of Deshler High School and Auburn University. She was an active member of the Florence Service League and a dedicated deacon at First Christian Church, Florence, Alabama.
Gail was known for her warm hospitality, culinary skills, and talent as a seamstress. She was a loving wife to John Douglas Evans and a devoted mother to her sons, John Gregory Evans and Douglas Somerville Evans. Gail’s passing is mourned by her family, including her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and three grandsons.
She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the lasting friendships she cultivated throughout her life. Gail’s impact on her community and the lives she touched will be deeply missed.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 1st Christian Church Florence, followed by a memorial service officiated by Rev. Pat Parvin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alabama Hospice of the Shoals or First Christian Church of Florence.
