Earlier this month, a standard traffic stop in Tuscumbia escalated into a significant drug operation bust, leading to the apprehension of a Sheffield resident on serious trafficking charges. Authorities uncovered approximately 200 pills suspected to be fentanyl during the encounter.
The incident unfolded on Thursday, July 10, when deputies and members of the Colbert County Drug Task Force initiated a traffic stop on Highway 43, close to Colbert Memorial Gardens. The vehicle was pulled over due to the absence of a license plate. During the course of the stop, law enforcement officials discovered that the driver was in possession of illegal narcotics.
After being taken into custody and booked at the Colbert County Jail, the suspect revealed a concealed bag hidden within his clothing. This bag contained around 200 pills that were believed to be fentanyl, as reported by Curtis Burns, the Director of the Drug Task Force.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Elijah Damonte Horrison from Sheffield, was initially released while awaiting laboratory confirmation of the substance in question. Once the lab results verified that the pills were indeed fentanyl, authorities issued arrest warrants for Horrison. He was subsequently taken back into custody last Thursday.
Currently, Horrison is being held at the Colbert County Jail with a bond set at $250,000, facing charges related to drug trafficking. Officials have indicated that the investigation into this matter is still ongoing, as they continue to gather information and assess the situation.
