W. P. Clayton, age 80, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in his hometown of Lawrenceburg, TN. Born on June 6, 1945, in Lawrence County, TN, he lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his faith.
W. P. Clayton was a man of integrity and honor, qualities that were evident to all who knew him. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era, a testament to his courage and patriotism. After his military service, he returned to his roots in Tennessee, where he built a life filled with love, laughter, and hard work. He retired from Murray Ohio, where his dedication and strong work ethic were well respected by his colleagues.
A devout member of OK Baptist Church, Mr. Clayton’s faith was a guiding light in his life. He found great joy in worshipping the Lord and was an inspiration to many in his congregation. His love for the outdoors was apparent to all, as he could often be found tending to his garden, casting a line while fishing, or enjoying a round of golf on a sunny afternoon.
Family was the cornerstone of W. P. Clayton’s life. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Clair and Beatrice Crouch Clayton; his wife, Betty White Clayton; his two siblings, Terry Clayton and Pearl Looney; and his cherished fur baby, CoCo.
His legacy continues through his loving family, who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his son, Danny “Cheese” Clayton (Ashley) of Lawrenceburg, TN; his daughter, Christy White Behnke (Rob) of Nashville, TN; his adored grandchildren, Kali Clayton of Lawrenceburg, TN, Alexandra Behnke Lucas (Daniel) of Nashville, TN, and Andrew Behnke of Nashville, TN; his caring sister, Peggy Surratt of Lawrenceburg, TN; his brother, Travis Clayton of Loretto, TN; and his fur baby, Sky.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. A memorial service will be conducted at OK Baptist Church at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 3, 2026.
