Lawrence County EMS crews recently conducted hands-on training sessions for local Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) students from Loretto High School and Summertown High School. Held on April 10, 2026, the training focused on obstetric emergencies, offering students practical experience in a critical area of emergency medical care.
During the sessions, students engaged with lifesaving equipment, gaining insights into its use and importance in real-world scenarios. This hands-on approach aimed to enhance their understanding of emergency medical procedures and prepare them for future roles in the field.
In addition to the training, the EMS crews visited Summertown Middle School for a career exploration event. This visit allowed middle school students to learn about the EMS profession and the various career paths available within the field. The students toured an EMS unit, providing them with a closer look at the equipment and vehicles used by emergency medical personnel.
Assistant Director Watkins, along with Paramedic Wright and AEMT Brogan, recognized the efforts of the EMR students during the training sessions. They emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world patient care. “Experiences like this help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world patient care,” Watkins stated.
Lawrence County EMS plans to continue its outreach efforts to strengthen connections with the community. By providing hands-on training and career exploration opportunities, the EMS crews are fostering interest in emergency medical services among local students.
This initiative not only equips students with valuable skills but also encourages them to consider careers in emergency medical services. The program reflects a commitment to community engagement and education, ensuring that the next generation is well-prepared for the challenges of the healthcare field.
