This past weekend, Veterans Park welcomed a new initiative aimed at enhancing community cleanliness, thanks to the efforts of local Cadet Girl Scout, Loralei Lee. She has successfully installed three dog waste stations, complete with bags, to help keep the park tidy for all visitors. This endeavor marks the final step in her journey to earn the Silver Award, the highest accolade available to Cadette Girl Scouts.
Loralei’s project gained traction after she presented her idea to local service organizations, specifically the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, which generously sponsored the installation of the three stations. In preparation for this project, she conducted thorough research on various types of waste stations and collaborated with Mrs. Pam Hyde from Lawrenceburg Parks and Recreation to evaluate the project’s feasibility and to develop a comprehensive plan.
To ensure the stations would be conveniently located, Loralei made multiple visits to the park, carefully selecting optimal spots that would be accessible for park-goers while also facilitating easy maintenance. Once the stations were in place, she promptly provided Director Hyde with a supply of bags to ensure the stations remain stocked for public use.
With her final paperwork submitted to the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, Loralei is now awaiting approval for her Silver Award. Looking ahead, she plans to embark on her next challenge: the Girl Scout Gold Award, which represents the pinnacle of achievement for Girl Scouts and is often compared to the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts.
Loralei’s contributions to Veterans Park are a commendable addition to the community, and her efforts are sure to have a lasting impact. We extend our gratitude to Loralei for her hard work and wish her the best of luck as she continues her journey with the Girl Scouts and beyond.
