Over the weekend, an elderly couple found themselves in a perilous situation when their car became trapped by rising floodwaters. According to the Giles County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 11:00 PM on Saturday, March 15th, when the couple’s vehicle was swept off the road while they were traveling on Horne Hill Road, a remote area located between Lawrenceburg and Pulaski.
In their moment of distress, the couple managed to reach out to deputies for assistance. However, due to multiple water rescues taking place simultaneously, they were forced to stay inside their vehicle for more than thirty minutes while awaiting help. During this time, officials advised them to remain calm and assured them that assistance was on the way.
When first responders finally arrived at the scene, the water had risen alarmingly close, reaching just a foot below the glove compartment of the car. Authorities expressed concern that had they not acted promptly, the situation could have resulted in tragic consequences, potentially leading to two fatalities. To safely extract the couple from the vehicle, responders had to break the front windshield. Fortunately, the couple emerged with only minor injuries, consisting of bumps and bruises, and were successfully rescued from the harrowing situation.
