Investigation Underway into Identity Theft in Lawrence County

Authorities in Lawrence County are currently looking into a case of identity theft after a resident reported receiving a suspicious bill from Verizon. The individual, who contacted the sheriff’s office, stated that they were surprised to find a bill indicating that one iPad and three Apple iPhones had been added to their account—devices that they had not authorized. Notably, the phone numbers associated with these new devices did not correspond to the account holder’s existing number.

Upon discovering the fraudulent charges, the victim was instructed by Verizon to file a police report, which would enable the company’s fraud department to initiate an investigation into the matter. In an additional troubling development, the same individual received a Cash App card in the mail that had been opened in their name, despite the fact that they do not possess a Cash App account.

The unauthorized phone activity has resulted in a significant bill amounting to $475.09. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department is actively investigating this incident, but no further information has been released at this time.
