Following the retirement of Dwayne Kilpatrick at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, Chief Deputy Matt Tiller has stepped into the role of Interim Sheriff for the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. In accordance with state regulations, Tiller now holds full authority over both the Sheriff’s Department and the county jail.
The Lewis County Commission is scheduled to convene for their regular meeting on Monday, February 24th, 2025, at 6:00 PM, during which they will appoint a new sheriff. The individual selected will be sworn in on Monday, March 17th, 2025, officially taking over the responsibilities of the Lewis County Sheriff. This new sheriff will complete the remainder of Mr. Kilpatrick’s term, which is set to conclude on August 31st, 2026.
For those interested in applying for the position, it is essential to submit a Sheriff’s qualification packet either by mail or in person to the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission.
