Two individuals from Athens are now in custody following a targeted shooting incident that occurred late Monday night, resulting in one person sustaining injuries and gunfire striking a nearby occupied home. The sequence of events began earlier that day, on July 7, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., when deputies were dispatched to respond to a domestic violence report on Poplar Point Road. During their investigation, they encountered 50-year-old Bradley Joe Hall, who claimed that his vehicle had been vandalized, despite not being directly involved in the domestic dispute itself. Hall allegedly cautioned the deputies that if they failed to apprehend the perpetrator, he would take matters into his own hands.
Later that evening, Hall reached out to 34-year-old Jonathan Clayton Moore, also from Athens, to express his intent to kill the person he believed was responsible for the earlier incident. Moore agreed to assist Hall by driving him to the location of the intended victim. Around midnight, the duo spotted the victim walking along a roadway. Hall exited the vehicle and shot the victim in the face. During this violent act, stray bullets also struck a nearby home that was occupied at the time.
After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene, but witnesses were able to provide deputies with detailed descriptions of both the individuals and their vehicle. Deputy Roland Hipolito quickly located the suspect’s vehicle and apprehended Hall at the scene. Meanwhile, Moore attempted to escape on foot into a nearby cornfield. Law enforcement officials, including investigators and deputies, conducted an extensive search throughout the night and into the following morning. Eventually, Moore was located in the 13000 block of Nancy Lou Loop. Reports indicate that he was armed and refused to leave a residence. The Limestone County SWAT Team was called in and successfully took Moore into custody without any further incident.
Bradley Joe Hall now faces charges of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling, while Jonathan Clayton Moore has also been charged with attempted murder. Both men have been booked into the Limestone County Jail, with bond details not yet established at the time of this report. The victim of the shooting suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin commended the efforts of all personnel involved, emphasizing the effective teamwork and commitment that led to a prompt resolution of the situation, ultimately ensuring the safety of the community.
