Woman Charged with Manslaughter in 2023 Case

A woman has been charged with manslaughter following a tragic accident in Colbert County, where she allegedly had drugs and alcohol in her system at the time of the incident. Emma Claire Snipes, a 25-year-old resident of Tuscumbia, was indicted by a grand jury in Colbert County for the death of 76-year-old Jimmie D. Smallwood, also from Tuscumbia. The collision occurred on Alabama Highway 20, south of Muscle Shoals, in November 2023, as reported by Alabama Troopers.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities pronounced Smallwood dead. The indictment against Snipes cites a toxicology report that revealed the presence of THC, alcohol, and methamphetamine in her bloodstream. Additionally, it was noted that she was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. Snipes was taken into custody on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, and subsequently released after posting a $50,000 bond from the Colbert County Jail.
