On Sunday evening, a Muscle Shoals police patrol vehicle was involved in an incident while an officer was assisting a motorist. The event took place just before 7 PM, south of Singing River Bridge in the northbound lane of Highway 133. The patrol vehicle had its lights engaged at the time of the accident, and the officer had just requested the driver of the vehicle he was assisting to step in front of the passenger side.
According to the officer, he heard screeching tires behind him and upon turning back, witnessed a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Timothy Wayne May sideswipe the patrol unit and then make contact with the vehicle he was assisting. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, May was arrested by ALEA troopers for driving under the influence (DUI) and was subsequently transported to the Colbert County Sheriff’s Department jail without further incident.
