In a routine session on Tuesday evening, the Lawrence County Commission convened to address a variety of matters. The meeting commenced with a commendation for the achievements of the Loretto High School Band, EO Coffman Middle School Panthers Baseball Team, and Summertown Middle School Lady Eagles Softball Team.
With 16 commissioners in attendance and 2 absent, the agenda was extensive. Several items were approved, including amendments to the 2023-2024 Lawrence County budget and the 2023-2024 Board of Education budget. Resolutions were passed for modifications to speed limits on Glenn Springs Road and Rabbit Trail Road. Additionally, agreements were made with the Perdue Law Firm for the collection of outstanding Circuit Court and General Sessions Court fines, costs, and litigation tax. A memorandum of understanding was also established with Heritage Health Solutions to help mitigate inmate medical expenses.
However, a resolution to acquire a 4.09-acre plot for a new Health Department construction did not pass, receiving 5 votes in favor, 10 against, and 1 abstention. Another resolution concerning amendments to solid waste disposal fees for mixed garbage loads was sent back to the Solid Waste Committee for further review. Furthermore, a resolution to endorse the lease agreement between Lawrence County and the Tennessee Board of Regents and Columbia Station Community College for the Southern TN Higher Education Center was also referred to the Facilities Committee for adjustments.
