Tennessee State Parks is extending an invitation to all Tennesseans to join in on March 2nd for the state’s annual Weed Wrangle event. This initiative is part of a larger national movement aimed at eradicating invasive plants from public spaces. The Weed Wrangle serves as a call to action for volunteers to come together and assist in the preservation of public parks and green areas by physically removing harmful non-native species such as trees, vines, and flowering plants.
In collaboration with the Garden Club of America, Tennessee is actively participating in the Weed Wrangle program, with 36 state parks, including Henry Horton Park in Chapel Hill, joining in the efforts. Volunteers who wish to take part in this event are required to register by March 2nd. The designated meeting point for the event will be near the boat ramp in the picnic loop at Henry Horton Park, where activities will take place from 9 AM to 12 noon. Participants will engage in hands-on work to enhance the beauty of the area.
It is worth noting that Tennessee Promise students can fulfill their community service requirements for the college financial assistance program by participating in the Weed Wrangle. This presents a unique opportunity for students to contribute to environmental conservation efforts while also meeting their academic obligations.
