Dorothy Mae Pope, 72, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025. She was born on November 16, 1952, in Waynesboro, Tennessee, to the late Thomas Lee and Beulah Mae Holt Adams. Dorothy was the beloved wife of Aaron Neal Pope for over 50 years and a loving mother to her two daughters, Stephanie Rose Wright and Amy Elizabeth Bryson. She was also a cherished grandmother to five grandchildren.
Dorothy had a distinguished career as an educator, teaching for thirty-three years with the Lawrence County School System. She was a dedicated member of her community, serving in various organizations and volunteering her time to help others. Dorothy was a devout Christian and an active member of her church, where she served on several committees and was the church’s first librarian.
In addition to her professional and community contributions, Dorothy enjoyed reading, gardening, antiquing, and traveling. She was known for her love of crossword puzzles and her commitment to donating blood to the American Red Cross.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, sisters, brother, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, siblings, and other relatives.
The family will receive friends at Neal Funeral Home on Saturday, March 01, 2025, with funeral services to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Cemetery or Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
Dorothy’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
