Ernest (Ernie) Hubert Calvert III, MSG, U.S. Army Retired, age 62, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at his home in Summertown. He was born on July 26, 1962, in Columbia, TN, to the late Ernest (Doc) Hubert Calvert Jr. and the late Nettie Mae Calvert.
Ernie enjoyed a distinguished 28-year career in the U.S. Army and Tennessee Army National Guard, culminating as NCOIC of a recruiting team and deploying to Iraq in 2009. He was a devoted family man who cherished spending time with his wife of 41 years, Candy, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ernie had a passion for hunting, fishing, and camping, and he loved watching the movie “Lonestar State of Mind” with his wife and close friends. He was known as Tink, and his cousin-in-law Talmadge was known as Junior. Ernie was a follower of Jesus Christ and is now celebrating with Him.
He is survived by his wife, Candy Calvert, children; Heather (Randy) Cornelius, Ernest (EJ) (Trista) Calvert IV, Colin (Katie) Calvert, sister; Diann (David) Bailey, brother; Jackie (Jana) Calvert, grandchildren; Tayler (Brittany) Landrum, Kinlee (Whitley) Moore, Abbi (Lane) Burleson, Brooklyn Calvert, Evie-Kate Calvert, RaeLyn Calvert, Ernest (Ace) Calvert V, Justin (Danielle) Cornelius, great-grandchildren; Easton Landrum, Charley Landrum, Vivian Cornelius, Blakely Landrum, Micah Cornelius, as well as several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and great-great-nieces.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Home from 11AM-2PM, followed by a funeral service with military honors provided by the United States Army. A burial will take place at a later date with family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Ernie will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
