MSG Jose “Tony” Antonio Torres, age 56, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at home after a 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He is a long-time, loyal resident of Lexington, AL.
A celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church of Lexington on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 3:00 PM with the service being held after. Tony’s Father-in-law, Herman Jaggers and son, Jonathan Torres, will be officiating. Burial will follow at Pettus Cemetery. Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.
Tony was preceded in death by his mother, Sol Mariela Torres, grandmother Olivia Gaviria, and Aunt Marta Patricia Tamayo Gaviria.
He is survived by Jennifer Torres, his wife of 29 years. Son, CPT Jonathan Torres (wife Keisha Torres) and daughter, Mariela Torres. His two grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Freya and Beric Torres. And his brother Israel Torres (wife Yomira) and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly.
Tony served in the Alabama Army National Guard for 17 years and was home to both the 115th
Expeditionary Signal Battalion in Florence, AL with which he deployed to both Afghanistan and Kuwait, and the 200th Regiment in Anniston, AL, where he was an instructor for many years.
The family would like to thank the wonderful Doctors and staff at Clearview Cancer Center, Greenhill Pharmacy, Gentiva Hospice (nurse Melissa and staff), Miss Beth’s Tailoring (Florence, AL), Total Health Care, friends, family, and church-family as well as all those who have prayed, called, text, sent cards, money, food, and support over the past year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Tony to Pancan.org.
