James William Davis, 85, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away on July 22, 2025, at his residence. Born on March 9, 1940, in Giles County, Tennessee, James was the son of Turney and Virginia Smith Davis. He was a retired employee of Bell South and had a deep passion for farming, raising beef cattle, and trail riding.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Turney and Virginia Smith Davis, as well as his brothers Noble, Cecil, Norman, and Joe Wayne Davis, and sisters Sarah Pilkinton and Myrtle McNeese. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Davis of Abingdon, Virginia, and his sister, Eilene Dale of Pulaski, Tennessee. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Kelly (Debra) Riddle of Castlewood, VA, and David (Paula) Riddle of Gate City, VA, as well as sisters-in-law Louise Davis of Lynnville, TN, and Norma Johnson of Santee, SC. Additionally, he is survived by special nephews Larry (Karen) Davis of Canton, GA, Barry (Connie) Davis of Pulaski, TN, Josh (Dawn) Riddle of Abingdon, VA, and Jorrdan (Erika) Riddle of Castlewood, VA. James was also cared for by special caretakers, Teresa and Preston Boyd.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home, with visitation from 12-1pm. Interment will follow at Giles Memorial Gardens, 140 Bethel Rd, Pulaski, TN. Carr & Erwin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
James will be remembered for his love of farming and his dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
