Mary Ellen Hudgins Thomas, 92, of Dalton, GA, passed away on October 18, 2025, at her residence. Born in Giles County, TN, Mary dedicated 55 years to a distinguished career as a registered nurse, serving in various capacities including hospitals, TVA industrial nurse, and administrative roles. She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Lebanon, TN, and found joy in jewelry making. Mary and her husband shared a passion for UT football, making every game a cherished event.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James C. Hudgins, Sr. and Hilda Chandler Hudgins; her husband, James Brice Thomas; one sister, Billie Doris Langnau; two brothers, Thomas E. Hudgins and Dr. James C. Hudgins, Jr.; and two sons, Kirk Lee Thomas and Darrell C. Thomas.
She is survived by her brother, David Leon Hudgins (Marian) of Dalton, GA; sisters-in-law, Rosa M. Hudgins of Clemmons, NC, and Patricia Flatt Gilliam of Lawrenceburg, TN; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, with visitation scheduled for October 25, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by funeral services at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place at Five Points Church of Christ Cemetery in Five Points, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee or your local chapter. Condolences may be sent through the funeral home’s website.
Mary will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to nursing, her love for her community, and her cherished memories with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
