Mrs. Mary Evelyn Thornton, a beloved resident of Killen, AL, peacefully passed away on July 5, 2025, at the age of 88. Mary was a cherished member of the community, a 1955 graduate of Mars Hill Bible School, a retired LPN, and a faithful member of Centerhill Church of Christ.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Albert Eli Thornton, her son Terry Dale Thornton (Becky), daughter Marsha Lynn Thornton, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and sister Freda McGee (Don). Mary is preceded in death by her son, Phillip Wade Thornton.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Greenhill Funeral Home, with a service immediately following. Interment will take place at Centerhill Church of Christ Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s memory to Rainbow Omega, Inc. or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Pallbearers for the service will be Tommy Ring, Ray Barger, Bill Creasy, Gaylord Ashby, Jerry Fox, Dennis Pruitt, and Trevor Thornton.
Greenhill Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
