Friends of Lawrence County Animals (FOLCA) has exciting news to share: the Dr. Dan G. Jennings Intake and Quarantine Center is on the horizon, thanks to a generous founding contribution from Betty and Jim Bush, along with ongoing support from the community. This new facility is designed to provide a secure intake and quarantine area for dogs entering the county shelter system, ensuring that these animals receive necessary medical attention and protection prior to their adoption or transfer to new homes. According to FOLCA leaders, the establishment of this center marks a pivotal advancement in animal welfare efforts within Lawrence County.
This initiative is a tribute to the late Dr. Dan G. Jennings, a beloved veterinarian from Lawrenceburg who passed away earlier this year. Dr. Jennings dedicated 52 years of his life to veterinary medicine in the local area before retiring in February. He was well-known for his expertise, compassion, and unwavering commitment to both animals and their owners, earning him the respect of the community as a leader and advocate for animal welfare.
Dr. Jennings was instrumental in the creation of Lawrence County SNIPS!, the county’s inaugural spay-neuter program, which has successfully assisted nearly 1,500 animals since it began. His emphasis on preventive care and community-driven solutions continues to inspire the mission of FOLCA.
To support the funding of the new center, FOLCA is organizing An Evening with Friends at Soulshine Farm on September 6. All proceeds from this event will be directed toward the development of the center. Additionally, individuals wishing to contribute can make donations online at www.folcatn.org.
