Thermon “Governor” McCord, age 95, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, at his residence. He was a native of Lawrence County, TN, owner of South Tennessee Produce, and a member of Mars Hill United Methodist Church. He was a beloved father, papa, and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W. E. and Lizzie White McCord; his wife, Velma McAdams McCord; one daughter, Sandra South; two sons-in-law, Charles South and Bobby Vandiver; daughter-in-law, Linda Lipscomb McCord; five brothers; and four sisters.
He is survived by one son, Jackie McCord (Beth) of Lawrenceburg, TN; one daughter, Kathy Vandiver of Lawrenceburg, TN; ten grandchildren, April Long (Lucas) of Summertown, TN, Mandy Burleson (David) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Cara Robertson (Brian) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Natalie Short (Kaleb) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Will South (Jasmine) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Tyler McCord (Sonya) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Taryn McCord of Lawrenceburg, TN, Leah Trimble of Lawrenceburg, TN, Will Yates (Crystal) of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Drew Hooker of Columbia, TN; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; and special friend, Peggy Tingle of Lawrenceburg, TN.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to NHC Homecare, Genetiva Hospice, and his caregiver, Victoria Johnson.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2024, with Billy Beal and Tyler McCord officiating. Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN. The family suggests memorials be made to Mars Hill United Methodist Church.
