Columbia Firefighters Return After Texas Fire Deployment

Columbia firefighters have recently returned home after playing a crucial role in combating the Ross Fire in Texas. Their deployment, as part of Tennessee Strike Team 1100, lasted from August 30 to September 6, 2026.

The Ross Fire expanded to approximately 90,400 acres, presenting significant challenges for firefighting teams. During their deployment, the Columbia firefighters worked long hours, often putting in 14- to 16-hour shifts in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. Their primary responsibilities included protecting structures and property from the advancing flames, as well as patrolling fire lines for hot spots.

The efforts of the Columbia firefighters led to a notable increase in fire containment, which rose from 30% to 87% during their time on the ground. This progress reflects the hard work and dedication of all firefighting teams involved in battling the blaze.

The team comprised Captains Joey Norman, Jon Hardy, and Will Craft, along with Firefighters Nicholas Weatherly, Ethan Pitton, and Garrick Paley. Their commitment to the mission was evident as they faced challenging conditions while working to control the fire.
