After an extensive investigation lasting three and a half months, the Loretto Police Department, with support from Adult Protective Services and the District Attorney’s Office, secured warrants against Kelly Chriest for theft by exploiting the elderly and forgery. The warrants were executed on April 13th at 122 North Main Street, with the assistance of the LPD and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, Chriest and her boyfriend, Dennis Whitaker Jr., barricaded themselves inside the premises, refusing to cooperate with law enforcement. Chriest was taken into custody for her outstanding warrants, while Whitaker was arrested for failure to appear and domestic assault warrants. Chriest faces a $77,000 bond for the charges against her, and Whitaker is being held on a $34,000 bond for his offenses.
In addition to their initial charges, both individuals have been accused of stealing a motorized wheelchair valued at over $1000. The stolen wheelchair was recovered during the operation. Chriest and Whitaker are currently detained at the Lawrence County Jail, awaiting their court appearances.
