The South Lawrence Convenience Center, marking the first solid waste disposal facility in the southern region of Lawrence County, is set to open its doors on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10 a.m. This new center is strategically situated at 171 Hollander Lane, just off Busby Road, in proximity to the Loretto Wastewater Treatment Facility. The site, encompassing two acres, was generously donated by the City of Loretto.
To best serve the community, the center will operate on a part-time schedule. Residents can utilize the facility during the following hours: on Tuesdays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon.
The South Lawrence Convenience Center is designed with efficiency in mind, featuring two drive-through lanes dedicated to the disposal of household trash and recyclables. Additionally, there is designated space for larger items, including beds and furniture. While the center will accept batteries and used oil at a smaller building, it is important to note that the oil collection service will not be available at the time of opening. Furthermore, tires can only be disposed of at the main facility, and the center will not accept wood or debris from construction and demolition activities.
The establishment of this center was made possible in part by a $187,000 grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation, which significantly contributed to the construction costs. This new facility is anticipated to enhance the convenience of waste disposal and recycling for residents living in the southern part of Lawrence County.
