Alton Redding Ledlow, 88, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025. He was born in Decatur, AL on September 22, 1936, to Jake Leldon Ledlow and Roxie Gillespie Ledlow. Alton lived a Christian life rich in relationships and experiences.
Alton graduated from Lexington High School in 1956 and Florence State University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He dedicated 32 years to the Lauderdale County Board of Education, impacting the lives of over 3000 students at Brooks High School in Killen, AL. Alton was instrumental in expanding the education capacity in Lauderdale County and establishing the first Brooks football team in the late 1960s.
On July 3, 1969, Alton married Robbie Mae Johnson, and together they engaged in various business initiatives, church functions, family travel, and agricultural ventures. After 45 years of marriage, Robbie passed away in 2014.
In his later years, Alton showed signs of dementia and moved to memory care and eventually skilled nursing care. Despite his limited communication capability, he continued to touch lives with his warming personality and developed new friendships.
Alton is survived by his stepson Gregory Wade Jones of Harvest, Alabama.
Visitation for friends and family will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Elkins East Chapel in Killen, AL, followed by a funeral service and burial at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens in Florence, AL. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to First Baptist Killen or the Dementia Society of America in memory of Alton.
