Vaudelle Smith Burns, 86, of Lawrenceburg, TN, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Adamsville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was a retired educator with the Lawrence County School System and a devoted member of Deerfield Baptist Church. Vaudelle was known for her love of singing, sewing, reading, and travel, but her true passion was teaching.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, William Thomas Burns; two daughters, Gena Smith (James) and Rita Barber (Richie); one son, Lenny Burns; one sister, Betty Jane Harlan (Roy); nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Vaudelle was preceded in death by her parents, William “John” Aster Smith and Lula Belle Lumpkins Smith.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Neal Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Deerfield Baptist Church on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow at Deerfield Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN.
Vaudelle will be remembered for her dedication to education and her love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
