William Allen “Chief” Dorning, 89, of Leoma, TN, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Southern TN Regional Health System in Lawrenceburg, TN. He was a dedicated public servant, having served as a Tennessee Highway Patrolman, Saint Joseph Police Officer, and retired Lawrence County Sheriff. He was also a proud member of the United States Air Force and a devoted member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Mr. Dorning was a respected member of the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association and American Legion Post 146.
He is survived by his daughters, Cindy Dorning and Christie Dorning White, his son, John Dorning, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Hughey Dorning, daughter, Angie Dorning Johnson, and several siblings.
The family will receive friends at Neal Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, and Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Funeral services will be held at Neal Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, followed by interment at Leoma Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Kid’s Place Child Advocacy. Condolences may be sent through the funeral home’s website at www.nealfuneralhome.net.
