On Thursday, January 30th, 2025, officers from the Florence Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of Grady Liles Drive and Royal Avenue. Eyewitnesses described a red sedan with three occupants that was involved in the incident. Shortly thereafter, patrol officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Chestnut Street and Irvine Street.
The individuals inside the car were identified as residents of Decatur, Alabama, including 19-year-old Braylon Oliver and two minors. At the time of the incident, Florence was engaged in a basketball practice with Muscle Shoals, and the shooting occurred near a gymnasium. Upon searching the vehicle, law enforcement discovered illegal drugs and firearms.
As a result of the findings, Oliver was arrested and faces multiple charges, including possession of marijuana as a second offense, possession of tobacco by a minor, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited from doing so. The two minors, whose identities remain confidential due to their age, were also taken into custody on related charges. The Florence Police Department is continuing its investigation to uncover any additional connections or potential charges related to this incident.
