Jimmy Roy Gowan, 77, of Cherokee, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at NAMC. He was a devoted Boiler Maker and a lover of Christ. His passion for fishing and the outdoors was evident to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlie Ruth Gowan, his parents, Justin Hendrix and Lottie Ruth Gowan, and his sons-in-law, Roy Matsuno and Johnny Ward.
Mr. Gowan is survived by his loving children, Sherry Matsuno, Ann Cox (John), and Michelle Ward, as well as his siblings, Ann Pierce, Mamie Tyler, Marion Aunspaugh (Wayne), and Justin Hendrix Gowan, Jr. (Kristal). He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Kristie Ghrigsby, Johnathan Ward, Kayla Bobo (Coty), Jared Cox (Carly), and Nathan Cox (Caitlin), and great-grandchildren, John Mikel Ward, Margaret Ward, Katlin Ward, Ashlee Olsen, and Conan Cox. His faithful companion, his dog “Charlie,” will dearly miss him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 12-1 PM at Elkins East Chapel, followed by a funeral service in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Parkinson’s Research.
