Stephen Jared McConnell, 35, of Leoma, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend to many. Stephen, known as Jared to his family, was a compassionate and gentle soul, known for his kind heart and remarkable spirit.
He was a 2008 graduate of Loretto High School and pursued a Welding Degree from Hinds Community College in Pearl, Mississippi in 2013. Stephen was dedicated to his work and was employed by Pettus Plumbing and Piping in Rogersville, AL. He was also a proud member of the Alabama Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 48. In addition to his professional endeavors, he served his community as a Lawrence County reserve deputy and corrections officer from 2009 – 2012.
Stephen was preceded in death by his grandparents S.D. “Bill” McConnell and Mildred McConnell of Leoma, TN, and his uncle, Barry L Wilson of Hartford, AL. He is survived by his loving parents, Sam McConnell (Lisa) of Leoma, TN, and Diane Wilson Boyette (David) of Kosciusko, MS. He is also survived by his brother, Joey McConnell (Andi) of Summertown, TN, and his grandparents, Esther (Huntley) Wilson of Hartford, AL, and Lavan Wilson (Joyce) of Huntsville, AL. He is also survived by his uncle, Larry Wilson (Dagmar) of Greenwood, FL, and his aunts, Bethany Wilson of Hartford, AL, and Sue Leighton (Mickey) of Leoma, TN. Stephen is also remembered by several great aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Stephen’s family and friends will remember him for his selfless nature and his dedication to helping those in need. He was a devoted believer in Christ Jesus and held firmly to the hope he found in Him. His family will receive friends on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Neal Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg, TN, and funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Neal Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Center Point Baptist Cemetery.
Stephen’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and his beloved pet, LuLu, the Schnoodle. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made
