Carl Ed Childress

Carl Ed Childress, a man of integrity, warmth, and dedication, passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 86 in Franklin, Tennessee. Born on November 6, 1939, in Ethridge, Tennessee, Carl’s presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Carla Childress Sisson (Steve), and his caring son, Jason Childress (Holly), both of Franklin, TN. Carl’s legacy continues through his seven adored grandchildren, Victoria Sisson, Jack Sisson (Sara-Grace), Ruth Childress, Elizabeth Childress, Isaac Childress, Moses Childress, and Joshua Childress. Carl was preceded in death by his loving parents, Roy and Stella Mae Bryan Childress, and his cherished wife, Burnice Gwendolyn Fleming Childress.

Carl graduated from Vanderbilt University where he enjoyed and thrived at baseball. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, a testament to his patriotism and sense of duty. Following his military service, Carl built a distinguished career as a civil engineer with Dee Shoring Company, where his expertise and work ethic were highly respected by his colleagues.

Beyond his professional achievements, Carl was an active member of his community, contributing his time and talents to various organizations. He was a faithful member of the Glenn Allen Church of Christ in Richmond, VA, and then Franklin Road Church of Christ in Franklin, TN, and he dedicated himself to serving others through the Twelve Baskets Outreach Ministry.

Those who knew Carl will remember him for his love of the outdoors. He found joy in jogging, a hobby that kept him fit and connected to nature. His pastime was being on his tractor, cutting wood, and enjoying his mini farm; it was a reflection of his love for hard work and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, January 23, 2026, at Franklin Church of Christ, 324 Franklin Road, Franklin, TN and from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 24, 2026, with Zack Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrence
