Claud Lois “CL” Hughes Sr., age 90, of Leoma, TN, passed away on Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at his residence in Leoma. CL was born in West Point, TN on January 5th, 1935 to the late Claud “Cap” Hughes and Louise Berryhill Hughes. CL proudly served his country in the United States Army. CL retired from Murray Ohio in 1995 but would continue his long-standing career as a farmer, raising turkeys, cows, and a garden. He was a member of New Prospect Church of Christ. He loved the annual fair, and was known for making his homemade corndogs for the Pea Ridge Community Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed working outdoors, fishing, camping, going to theme parks, water skiing, roller skating, and spending time with his loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Glenda Gail Van Pelt Hughes, who he was married to since 1961.
He is survived by his children, Renee Hart (Marty) and Claud Hughes Jr. (Melinda); sister, Carolyn Hill; grandchildren, Chris Hart(Elizabeth), Colt Hughes (Amanda), Brian Hart (Caitie), Monica Hart, and Jodie Wiseman (Dylan); 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren yet to be born; nieces, Gemma, Sherri, and Dana; several cousins, and extended family members; caretaker, Ann Fisher; beloved canine companions, Ring and Penny, and his cat.
Visitation will be held at Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Funeral Service will be held at Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Brother Jeff Smith and Brother Leslie Shadrick will be officiating.
Interment will be held at Shaw Cemetery.
