Rex D. Hughes, 70, of Westpoint, TN, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born on July 24, 1955. Rex was a dedicated girls youth center softball coach and had a passion for sports, particularly basketball. He also found joy in tending to his gardens and feeding the hummingbirds.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Cleo Byrd Hughes; sister, Shirley Staggs; brother, Freddie Hughes; sister-in-law, Ernestine Hughes; brother-in-law, Allan Brazier; and nephews, Houston Hughes and Nathan Staggs.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Anita Hughes; daughters, April Hughes (Lee Macon) and Carrie Hughes; sisters, Portia Brazier and Debra Mullins (Randy); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent through their website at www.nealfuneralhome.net. Rex will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
