Victoria Jane Douglass, age 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep at NHC Lawrenceburg following a long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Born on November 27, 1940, in Florence, AL, Victoria was the only daughter of the late Susan Jane Fleming and William Cochrane. She was a dedicated student and educator, attending Coffee High School and later earning her Associate of Arts and Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from the University of North Alabama. An accomplished artist, her abstract works and watercolors were exhibited at the Elaine Augustine Art Gallery and were highly regarded by her peers. Victoria was a spiritual woman who traveled extensively, with a particular fondness for the years she spent in the Azores and Italy. She held a deep appreciation for historic architecture, Italian culture, and her family. She was a devoted mother who lived with faith, love, and simplicity, and her spirit remains a lasting source of inspiration for all who knew her. Victoria was preceded in death by: her husband Dr. Joseph Walton Douglass Sr., Eldest daughter Melissa Victoria Douglass Wilburn, Young Eldest son JoeCephas Laphiette Douglass, and youngest son Denny Fleming Douglass. Victoria is survived by her oldest daughter Susan Jane Douglass Lopp, eldest son Joseph Walton Douglass Jr., and youngest son John Mitchell Douglass Jr. Victoria/Gee Gee is survived by her grandchildren: Robert Joseph Young, Larry Ray Wilburn, Justin Walton Douglass, Samantha Douglass Smith, Falon Douglass Cozart, Christian Douglass, Erica Paige Tidwell, and Eric Michael Mashburn. In accordance with her wishes, a private ceremony will be held for the family only. We appreciate your support and your respect for our privacy during this time.
